| CLSI (Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute) | A national organization that develops/sets standards for best clinical practices and promotes their use worldwide |
| Certification | Awarded to a person completing academic and training in a specific area of expertise & upon completing an exam proving proficiency |
| NCCT Phlebotomy Exam | Grants national certification that allows ability to practice as a phlebotomist in most states |
| License | Official document that gives legal permission to work in a field |
| Continuing Education | Needed every couple of years to update knowledge or skills in a given profession |
| Patient interaction | Crucial to the success of the laboratory as this is patient's only point of contact with the lab |
