atomic theory, bonding, properties
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What are isotopes | Atoms of an element with a different number of neutrons therefore a different atomic mass |
| elements | substances that are made up of only one type of atom |
| compounds | pure substances made if more than one type of atom. Make up a huge variety of metals |
| materials | substances that are used to make objects |
| Polymer | a material with a molecular structure that is composed of many repeating smaller units bonded together. E.g. plastics, Rylan, silk and paper and synthetic polymers. |
| ceramics | an inorganic, non metallic solid. Contain metal and non metal and metalloid elements held together by ionic and covalent bonds. |
| Composite material | a combination of 2 or more distinct materials with significantly different physical and chemical properties. The resultant material demonstrates a range of properties that would be unobtainable by using one of the individual materials on its own. |
