QuestionAnswer
Density Refers to how much matter is packed into a given volume
velocity speed of an object in a particular time
acceleration is the change in velocity over time
Deceleration when velocity decreases
Force Anything which causes an object to move or change velocity measured in Newtons
Friction A force which prevents easy movement between two objects in contact.
Energy Is the ability to do work unit is Joule (J)
Kinetic energy Is the energy when something is in movement e.g. heat energy
Potential energy Is energy that is stored e.g. nuclear energy
dissipated energy energy that is not useful e.g. sound energy from a kettle
static electricity generated when an object becomes charged.
Resistance The opposition to the flow of electrons in a circuit and is measured in ohms
Ohms law states that when the temperature is constant the amount of steady current passing through a material is directly proportional to the voltage across the material
Diodes Electronical components that only allow current to flow through them in one direction.
Light emitting diode (LED) a type of diode that lights up when current flows through it.
Resistors Reduce the flow of current in a circuit
Light dependent resistors (LDRs) are resistors that allows more current to flow through them when more light shines on them
thermistor a type of resistor that allows more current to flow through them when more light shines on them
fuse is used to break a circuit if too much electricity is flowing through it
universe all of space and everything in it
star is a large ball of gas that gives off light and heat
solar system composed of a star and all the objects orbiting around it.
galaxy is a collection of many billions of stars
Planet large round object that travels around a star, clearing its own orbit
dwarf planet round space object that travels around a star but has not cleared its own orbit
satellite any object that orbits a planet
moon naturally occurring satellite
asteroid a small rocky object that orbits a star
comet a small object composed from frozen gases, ice, rock and dust that can glow and produce a tail
gravity force generated by all objects that attracts all other objects
Big Bang Theory suggests that the universe started with an explosion that allowed all the universe's known matter and energy as well as space and time to form
Sun Is the star at the centre of our solar system
Day and night caused by the rotation of earth's on its own axis
Seasons result from the tilt of the earth's axis
Lunar cycle is the time it takes the moon to complete a full orbit of the earth
waxing moon when the illuminated area of the moon is increasing
waning moon when the illuminated area of the moon is decreasing
tides are caused by the attractive forces of the gravitational pull of the sun and moon
solar eclipse occurs when the moon blocks out the light of the sun from earth
lunar eclipse occurs when earth casts a shadow on the surface of the moon
The international space station is used to research the effects of space travel on the human body, to collect information about Earth and to test technologies for further space travel

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
