A Hero's Journey

TermDefinition
Status Quo We are introduced to the protagonist's every day life.
Call to Adventure Receives an invitation or challenge that sets them on their journey or adventure.
Assistance Meet a mentor figure who gives them advice or guidance (assistance) for their journey.
Departure Leaves their "known" world for the unknown world that lies ahead.
Trials They face obstacles and challenges that test their character and determination.
Approach They begin approaching their biggest fears and doubts.
Crisis They face their greatest fear or obstacle - The experience a symbolic "death" of their old self and a "rebirth" of a new self, signaling a change within themselves.
Treasure After surviving the crisis, the protagonist is rewarded with the symbolic "treasure." This is the new knowledge they have gained from their experience. This empowers them to continue their journey.
Result As a result, they face a final challenge where they apply everything they have learned.
Return They can now complete the adventure and return home; they may face a final obstacle.
New Life They are now forever transformed and have outgrown their old life.
Resolution Everything falls into place for the Protagonist;the adventure is complete. The Protagonist returns home but is transformed having gained new knowledge and insight.
