How did the Soviets use the weather against Germany at Stalingrad? When the Russian winter arrived, the Soviets took advantage by cutting off Germany's supplies.
Why was the German surrender at Stalingrad so important? It was Germany's biggest defeat and it completely changed the path of the war.
Why did Japan choose to attack the US? Because the US stopped selling oil to them. Japan needed oil for planes, tanks, and ships, and without it they would be weak.
What was Japan trying to protect when they planned the attack? Japan attacked to protect its military and stay strong in the war.
Where did Japan launch its attack on the US? Japan attacked the US Naval forces at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
What was the damage and loss of life at Pearl Harbor? A lot of ships and planes were destroyed, and many soldiers were killed.
What did the US do right after Pearl Harbor happened? Right after the attack, the US entered WWII.
What was the Allied plan and strategy for D-Day? They planned a huge invasion to free France from Germany. The US and Britain attacked from the west while the USSR attacked from the east.
Who was the US General in charge of leading D-Day? The D-Day attack was led by US General Dwight D. Eisenhower.
What did the Allies physically do on D-Day and what did they start doing? The Allies invaded from the sea and began to free France from German control.
How did D-Day hurt the German military in the end? It forced Germany to fight a two-front war, which helped crush the German military.
Why did the US decide to use atomic bombs and what was the plan? To end the war quickly and force Japan to surrender. They planned to drop two bombs called "Fat Boy" and "Little Man" on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
What did the US do to end the war quickly, and what happened three days later when Japan didn't surrender? The US dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, causing many deaths, and then dropped the second bomb on Nagasaki three days later.
