| Active Listening | act of listening intently to not only hear the words being spoken also to understand the complete message being sent |
| Addiction | physical or psychological need for a habit forming substance such as drugs or alcohol or activity such as shopping |
| Anaphylaxis | severe allergic reaction that can affect the whole body |
| Antigen | foreign substance, either outside or inside the body that causes the immune system to produce antibodies |
| Atherosclerosis | buildup of plaque on the inner living of an arterial wall over time that causes the arteries to harden and may lead to amyocardial inforction |
| Atria | one of the two upper chambers in the heart that receives blood from circulatory system |
| Central Nervous System | part of the nerves system that includes the brain and spinal cord |
| CPR | emergency lifesaving procedure in which a series of chest compressions and rescue breaths are given to a person whose breathing or heartbeat has stopped; support blood circulation and breathing |
| Database | collection of records such as addresses, phone numbers and other patient information |
| Ergonomics | practice or science of maximizing efficiency and preventing discomfort or injury during the time a person is performing worth tasks |

| Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) | document containing comprehensive info about a particular chemical used in a healthcare facility; each chemical used has a corresponding chemical |

| OSHA | government agency that creates regulations to prevent work, related injuries, illnesses, and deaths |
| Ratio | compares one quantity w/another similarity quantity |
| Sims Position | position in which a patient lies on their left side w/the right leg drawn up high and forward the left arm along the back, and the chest foward resting on bed |
| Stress | body's physical, mental and emotional response to change, trauma or challenging situations |
| Tendon | fibrous tissue that connects muscle to bone |
| Ventricle | fluid filled cavity in heart or brain |
| Vital Signs | measurement of body functions of a living organism |
