Anti-Federalists Wanted strong state governments and the Bill of Rights in the Constitution.
Great Compromise Compromise during the Constitutional Convention that brought together the New Jersey Plan and the Virginia Plan. Called for Congress to be bicameral (two houses):

Alien and Sedition Acts Did not allow immigrants to vote and it took away first amendment rights. If anyone spoke out against the government, they would be tried for treason
Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions Declared Alien and Sedition Acts Unconstitutional by stating that states had the right to declare federal laws unconstitutional.
Who did the Jefferson government acquire the Louisiana Territory from? France. Jefferson felt guilty a the Constitution did not state if he President had the right to buy land.
Embargo Act of 1807 Passed by Jefferson to stop imports and exports to and from foreign countries.
What changed in 1812 because the British were practicing impressment (kidnapping U.S. sailors and forcing them to be in the British navy)? Neutrality
What connected eastern states to new western territories obtained from the Louisiana Purchase? New improvements in transportation, such as canals and roads, allowed goods to be transferred more easily to eastern ports.
Monroe Doctrine The U.S. stated that they would become protectors and the Western Hemisphere by keeping Europe out. MANIFEST DESTINY
Why did Andrew Jackson follow the policy of Indian Removal? He wanted the land east of the Mississippi.

Sectionalism contributions Cultural differences, Economic differences: North relied on industry, the south relied on agriculture, Political differences
John Brown raids He tried to start a slave revolt by taking over an armory in Harpers Ferry.
1860 Election Lincoln won the election.
Missouri Compromise Missouri added as a slave state, Maine added as a free state. 36th parallel: any state added above it would be free, any state added below would be slave.
Compromise of 1850 California added as a free state; New Mexico and Utah territories would use popular sovereignty to decide on slavery
