| What is the purpose of the flat bed position? | used for resting or sleeping after certain procedures such as lumbar punctures and back surgery |
| General Routine Care is normally doing at what times of the day... | Early Morning (Early AM), Morning (AM), Afternoon (PM), |
| Tub Bath | A patient can sit in a tub of water that may or may not include a whirlpool; cleanses the full body |
| Shower | The patient can stand under a sprayer of water, sit on a shower chair, or bench for cleansing of the body |
| Therapeutic Bath | A tub bath given for a specific reason such as to soak with medication added to soothe itching or skin disorders; can also be a whirlpool bath for the removal of infected or necrotic tissue from wounds |
| Partial Bath | Only selected parts of the body are washed such as hands, face, axilla, buttocks, perineal area, or parts of the body that would cause odor if not washed. (normally done when patient is in pain or nauseated) |
| Commercially Prepared Bathing Product | A kit that contains disposable wipes that are heated in the microwave. used on one area of the body then disposed to prevent cross contamination |
| Assisted or Help Bath | The bath may be given sitting in bed or in a chair sitting upright and the patient participates as much as possible |
| Complete Bed Bath Using a Commercial Prepared Bathing Product | The bath is given by using special wipes that are packaged specifically for bathing (Are warmed) Used on one area of the body and disposed of (complaints of wipes leaving the skin feeling sticky) |
| Complete Bed Bath | The bath is accomplished using a basin of water at the bedside; all parts of the body are washed (generally the patient is too ill to assist so nurse performs the bath) |
| Occupied Bed | This bed is considered occupied if the linens are changed with the patient still in the bed |
| What is the purpose of the Fowlers position? | Knees slightly elevated to prevent sliding down; used when patient want to sit up in bed and watch tv or converse with visitors |
| What is the purpose of the Semi-Fowlers position? | Used for patients on continuous tube feedings to prevent aspiration and for comfort when patient does not wish to be completely flat |
| What is the purpose of the Trendelenburg position? | Used for patients that have very low blood pressure (shock) to return blood to the brain and the vital organs (keeping the bed flat and the feet elevated for patients with breathing difficulty or head injury) |
| What is the purpose of the Reverse Trendelenburg's position? | Used to elevate the patients head without bending at the waist for patients who have returned from a procedure requiring that the legs be kept straight at the groin such as cardiac catheterization |
