Industrialization When the world economies shifted from farming focus to a focus on machines and factories.
Plessy v. Ferguson Mixed race man attempted to integrate train cars in Louisiana. Led to Supreme Court decision: "Separate but equal"
Trail of Tears Andrew Jackson mandated all Native Americans out of their land on the East coast to move out west. Many of them died due to diseases. This happened between 1830 - 1850.
Homestead Act Enabled Americans to get land, up to 160 acres for a minimal fee. This act was to get more people to move out west and increase the population.
Sand Creek Massacre A Colorado militant attacked a camp at Sand Creek, killing Cheyenne and Arapaho people in 1864.
Laramie Treaty 1868 agreement between US and Native tribes to establish reservations for Natives to live.
Sherman Antitrust Act A rule to stop monopolies (Ruling a whole industry)
Tenement Life It was crowded, dirty, and lots of diseases were running rampant.
Robber Barons The super wealthy people that monopolized industries to make their money.
Labor Union Started by socialist to have safety and equality in work places.
Homestead Strike in Pennsylvania In Homestead, PA a violent strike at a steel mill. It made the labor unions look bad.
Gold Standard How a nation's currency was valued. It made it easy to be able to trade currency.
Depression of Early 1890's Economic downfall where many were unemployed; mostly in USA and Australia.
