Anode an electrode with a conductivity surface for oxidation. (can be positive or negative depending on the cell)
Cathode an electrode with a conductivity surface for reduction. (can be positive or negative depending on the cell)
Electrochemical Cell what connects chemical energy and electrical energy
Electrolytic cell electrical energy is supplied to force a nonspontaneous reaction to occor
Half reaction shows either the oxidation or reduction portion of a redox reaction
Oxidation the loss of electrons by an atom or ion and a gain in oxidation number
Oxidation number positive,negative and neutral values assigned to atoms
Redox a reaction where both oxidation and reduction occor
Reduction the gain of electrons by an atom or ion and the loss of oxidation number
Salt bridge what allows ions to move between solutions while keeping charges balanced
