What are the four most common atoms in the human body? Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, Nitrogen
MOLECULES Made up of atoms that band together
ORGANELLES "Organs of the cells" Formed by joines molecules
SUPERIOR(Cranial) Up or close to the head EX: The thoracic cavity is SUPERIOR to the abdomonal cavity.
INFERIOR Below or close to the feet EX: The neck is INFERIOR to the head
ANTERIOR Toward the FRONT of the body EX: The nose is ANTERIOR to the ears
POSTERIOR Toward the back of the body EX: The brain is POSTERIOR to the eyes
MEDIAL Close to the MIDLINE of the body EX: The nose is MEDIAL to the ears
LATERAL Farther away from the midline of the body EX: The ears are LATERAL to the nose
PROXIMAL Close to a point of attachment or to the trunk of the body EX: The knee is PROXIMAL to the toes.
DISTAL Farther away from a point of attachment or from the trunk of the body EX:The fingers are DISTAL to the elbow
SUPERFICIAL Close to the surface of the body EX: Skin is SUPERFICIAL to skeletal muscles
DEEP More internal (away from the surface) EX: Bones are DEEP to the skin
SAGITAL PLANE Divides the body inot LEFT and RIGHT portions
MEDIAN or MIDSAGITAL PLANE Runs LENGTHWISE DOWN the MIDLINE of the body. Divides it into EQUAL LEFT and RIGHT HALVES
TRANSVERSE PLANE Divides the body into SUPERIOR (upper) and INFERIOR (lower) portions
FRONTAL or CORONAL PLANE Divides the body into ANTERIOR (front) and POSTERIOR (rear) portions
What are the 4 body cavities? Cranial cavity, thoracic cavity, vertebral cavity, abdominopelvic cavity
What cavities does the DORSAL cavity make up? Vertebral canal and cranial cavity
What cavities make up the VENTRAL CAVITY? Thoracic cavity and abdominopelvic cavity
