TermDefinition
Autosome Are chromosomes that contain genes for characteristics that are unrelated to sex.
Human genome All the DNA.
Human Genome Project Is an international project that includes scientists from around the world.
Linkage map The locations of genes on a chromosome.
Linked genes Genes that are located on the same chromosome.
Sex chromosome Is a type of chromosome involved in sex determination.
Sex-linked gene Genes located on the sex chromosomes.
X-linked gene Genes on the X chromosome.
Epistasis A certain relationship between genes.
Gene therapy T.he use of genetic material to treat or prevent disease
gGnetic trait A specific characteristic of an individual.
Multiple allele trait Traits controlled by a single gene with more than two alleles.
Nondisjunction The failure of the chromosomes to separate, which produces daughter cells with abnormal numbers of chromosomes.
Pedigree Shows relationships between family members and indicates which individuals have certain genetic pathogenic variants, traits, and diseases within a family as well as vital status.
Pleiotropy A type of genetic expression in which only one gene affects multiple traits
Sex-linked trait Characteristics that are influenced by genes carried on the sex chromosomes.
X-linked trait Occur when a pathogenic variant in a gene on the X chromosome leads to disease.
Biotechnology Technology that utilizes biological systems, living organisms or parts of this to develop or create different products.
Gene cloning A technique that assembles the gene of interest into recombinant DNA molecules and replicates them in a host organism.
Genetic engineering A process that uses laboratory-based technologies to alter the DNA makeup of an organism.
Pharmacogenomics The study of how an individual's genetic inheritance affects the body's response to drugs.
Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) A laboratory technique for rapidly producing (amplifying) millions to billions of copies of a specific segment of DNA.
Recombinant DNA Is an artificially made DNA strand that is formed by the combination of two or more gene sequences.
Synthetic biology Is the design and construction of new biological parts, devices, and systems and the re-design of existing biological systems.
Transgenic crop As plants that have been genetically engineered to incorporate desired characteristics through the transfer of specific genes.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
