Soil loose weathered material on earth's surface in which plants can grow. It is a mixture of rock particles, minerals, decayed organic matter, water, and air.
Bedrock the solid layer of rock beneath the soil.
Humus is a dark colored substance that forms when plants and animals decay.
Soil Fertility How well the soil supports plant growth
Soil Texture: The feel and size of the particles in the soil
Soil pH How much acid is in the soil
O Horizon : Made of organic material of plant and animal remains
A Horizon Made of topsoil
B Horizon Made of subsoil \
C Horizon: Made of bedrock that is beginning to weather and break apart
Bedrock Solid layer of rock
Decomposers breaks up remains of dead plants and animals.
