soil

TermDefinition
soil s loose weathered material on earth's surface in which plants can grow. It is a mixture of rock particles, minerals, decayed organic matter, water, and air.
Bedrock is the solid layer of rock beneath the soil
Humus s a dark colored substance that forms when plants and animals decay.
Geologist look a 3 things to identify the type of soil A. Soil Fertility: How well the soil supports plant growth B. Soil Texture: The feel and size of the particles in the soil C, Soil pH: How much acid is in the soil
O Horizon Made of organic material of plant and animal remains
A Horizon: Made of topsoil
B Horizon: Made of subsoil
C Horizon: Made of bedrock that is beginning to weather and break apart
Bedrock: Solid layer of rock
Decomposers breaks up remains of dead plants and animals.
Burrowers: Mix up the soil
Layers of Soil A. O Horizon: Made of organic material of plant and animal remains
