El suelo es material suelto erosionado en la superficie terrestre en el que pueden crecer las plantas. Es una mezcla de partículas de roca, minerales, materia orgánica descompuesta, agua y aire.
La roca madre es la capa sólida de roca que se encuentra debajo del suelo.
El humus es una sustancia de color oscuro que se forma cuando las plantas y los animales se descomponen.
Los geólogos observan 3 cosas para identificar el tipo de suelo.
Fertilidad del suelo: Qué tan bien el suelo favorece el crecimiento de las plantas.
Textura del suelo: La sensación y el tamaño de las partículas en el suelo.
