Soil

QuestionAnswer
Soil is.... Loose weathered material on earth's surface in which plants can grow. It is a mixture of rock particles, minerals, decayed organic matter, water, and air.
Bedrock is what? The solid layer of rock beneath the soil.
What is humus? It's a dark colored substance that forms when plants and animals decay.
Soil Fertility How well the soil supports plant growth
Soil Texture The feel and size of the particles in the soil
Soil pH How much acid is in the soil
O Horizon Made of organic material of plant and animal remains
A Horizon Made of topsoil
B Horizon Made of subsoil
C Horizon Made of bedrock that is beginning to weather and break apart
Bedrock Solid layer of rock
Decomposers Breaks up remains of dead plants and animals.
