larynx: voice box and vocal cords. covered by the flap of epiglottis
trachea: supported by tracheal cartilage
bronchi: tubes that branch from trachea into bronchioles
bronchioles: branched tubes, supply air to alveoli
alveoli: air sacs where gas exchange happens. surrounded by capilaries for diffusion of O2 and CO2
diaphragm: muscle for inhalation. contctracts to inhale, expands for exhale
