P-Narcotic Overdose

| Indications | DLOC, Respiratory depression requiring BVM S/S suggestive of narcotic overdose |
| Contraindications | Allergy to naloxone, neonate |
| Cautions | Naloxone can cause patient to wake up combative. May precipitate withdrawal symptoms |
| What does the attendant do before administering naloxone? | Complete the primary survey Attempt complete history and delegate vitals signs. |
| What does the partner/driver do? | Obtain baseline set of vitals starting with pupils, GCS and RR. Then prepare the cot. |
| What does attendant do when administering naloxone? | Administer either 0.4mg of naloxone IM or 2.0mg naloxone IN. Transport immediately after first dose. |
| If no improvements of LOC or RR, what does the attendant do next? | Continue with subsequent does of naloxone. (IM: 0.4mg, 0.8mg. 2.0mg) (IN: 2.0mg, 2.0mg) Consider other causes of unconsciousness(AEIOUTRIPS) |
| What should you be careful of with higher doses of naloxone? | More pronounced withdrawal symptoms including vomiting, seizures and aggression. |
