AI refers to the computational systems and algorithms that control Non-Player Characters
Anime visual aesthetic (anime-style games) or cross-media adaptations
Console a specialized computer designed primarily for playing interactive video games
Cut scene a non-interactive sequence in a video game where player control is temporarily restricted
ESA entertainment Software Association
ESRB Rating a system that assigns age and content ratings to consumer video games in the United States and Canada
First Person Shooter a subgenre of video games where the player experiences the action directly through the eyes of the protagonist
FPS (Frames Per Second) Frames Per Second
Game screens define the distinct visual environments and user interfaces a player navigates
Genre a classification based on how the game is played (core mechanics and player interaction) rather than its story or setting
Gone Gold a game's primary development cycle is complete and the master build has been approved for mass manufacturing and digital release
Grind the act of repeating the same tasks or activities over and over again to gain a gameplay advantage
Janky a title that feels unpolished, awkward, or loosely constructed
Level a bounded, self-contained space or stage where a player completes objectives to progress
Loot any in-game items—such as weapons, armor, currency, cosmetics, or crafting materials—that players collect as rewards
MMO Massively Multiplayer Online
Pixels the smallest individual dot of color and light on a digital screen
Platform a specific hardware/software system used to play games, or a specific genre of game (a platformer)
Quest a structured mission or task assigned to the player
Realm a standalone server hosting a specific community
RPG a video game genre where you assume the role of a character and guide them through a detailed, story-driven adventure
Sprites a two-dimensional bitmap graphic or image integrated into a larger scene
Top-down a camera angle positioned directly above the action, looking downward
