What do we call the period from 1920 to 1929? Why do we call it that? They were called the roaring 20s because people wanted to have fun after world war l.
What is a stock? Its a share of a business.
Why do people buy stocks? Because they get to make parts of the companies money.
What does prosperity mean? IT means wealth.
What does depression mean when referring to the economy? It means times when the economy was not doing well.
True or False: Just the US was affected by the Great Depression. Why do you think this is? It is false i think this is because the USA is a port for goods and has good military.
What is a mortgage? Its a loan to buy a house.
Who was elected president in 1928? How did he feel about the stock market crash? It was Herbert Hoover and he didn´t want to be part of the stock market.
What is interest? Why do banks charge interest? Its a fee based on the loan they take out.
What did World War I veterans try to do in 1932? Were they successful? They made camps but it wasnt succsesly.
How did the government respond to the WWI veterans camping out in the capital? They threw tear gas and destroyed their camps.
Who became president in 1933? It was Franklin. D. Roosevelt.
What did people call the broadcasts that the president gave? Why did they help? They called it fireside chats they helped because they supported his speeches.
What did Roosevelt want to do instead of just giving money to unemployed workers? He wanted to give them jobs so they wouldnt run out of money.
What is a deficit? Its a dept which happens when the government spends more money then it takes.
What were “runs” on banks? They were depts when depositors tried taking out all there money.
What does it mean for workers to go on strike? It means that they refuse to until working conditions got better.
Why did the Supreme Court rule against some of Roosevelt’s programs? Because they thought his programs were to powerful so they made them to let owners form unions.
What idea is capitalism based on? It believes workes who made the goods or provided the services should share equally with the wealth.
What is a drought? A long period of dry weather.
What was the nickname given to the Great Plains? What was it called after the drought? It used to be called the breadbasket and after it was called the dust bowl.
Which state did many families move to after losing everything in the dust storms? They moved to California because it didn´t get dusted.
Why didn’t FDR support African Americans during his first term as president? Because he wanted to keep his support.
What is a hobo? Homeless people who traveled a lot and illegally.
What were the differences between country schools and schools in cities? Country schools had unofficial teachers. City schools had 30-50 kids and some kids dropped out due to clothing.
What is one way African Americans experienced discrimination during the depression? They got payed a lot less.
How did the girls in the Secret Helpers Club help people? They gave hoboes food by collecting 10-15 cents.
What were the two main sources of entertainment for families during the depression? It was radios and Movies.
How did Hitler become popular in Germany? Because he blamed Germany´s problems on jewish people and communists.
What is war production? It is making weapons and other materials for the millitary.
Why was FDR getting elected in 1940 special? Because he was elected for his third term.
What is one way that the New Deal helped America? The Social Security Act helped elderly and disabled by giving them money because they didnt have jobs and since the economy was poor they became broke
How did women help during war time? They helped by working in factories and building stuff for the war.
Which superhero was created during the Great Depression? It was Super Man
