Trigonometry Terms
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Trigonometry | The study of the relations of sides and angles of triangles |
| Angle | Determined by rotating a ray about its endpoint |
| Initial Side | The starting position of a ray; POSITIVE x-axis |
| Terminal Side | The position after the rotation |
| Vertex | The common endpoint; origin |
| Co-Terminal Angles | Angles that have the same initial side and the same terminal side Formula: Co-T = theta + n * 360 degrees Co-T = theta + n * 2pi |
| Radian | The measure of the central angle, theta that intercepts arc, s, equal in length to the radius, r, of a circle Formula: theta = s/r |
| Arc Length | The distance between two points along a circle Formula: s = central angle * radius *Central angle must be in RADIANS* |
| Cosecant | Reciprocal of Sine |
| Secant | Reciprocal of Cosine |
| Cotangent | Reciprocal of Tangent |
| Reference Angle | The acute (positive) angle, O', formed by the terminal side of O (theta) and the horizontal axis (Shortest path to the x-axis) |
| Unit Circle | A circle with a radius of 1 unit |
| Quadrantal Angle | An angle whose terminal side lies on an axis |
