Figurative Language the use of words or phrases to convey a deeper, more vivid meaning that goes beyond their literal definitions
Idiom a common phrase or expression with a figurative meaning that cannot be understood just by looking at the literal definitions of the individual words
Metaphor a figure of speech that directly compares one thing to another by stating one thing is the other
Simile a figure of speech that directly compares two different things to make a description more vivid and relatable
Alliteration a literary device where two or more words in close proximity repeat the same initial consonant sound
Hyperbole a figure of speech that uses extreme, deliberate exaggeration to emphasize a point, evoke strong emotions, or add humor
Personification a literary device and figure of speech that gives human traits, emotions, or actions to non-human entities
Onomatopoeia the process of creating or using words that phonetically imitate, resemble, or suggest the sound that they describe
Oxymoron a figure of speech that pairs two contradictory or opposing words together
Receive to get, accept, or acquire something that has been given, sent, or communicated to you
Ordinary normal, usual, or something that is not special, different, or unexpected in any way
Committee a small group of people chosen to represent a larger organization to investigate, deliberate, or take action on specific matters
Campaign a planned, structured sequence of connected activities designed to achieve a specific goal
Incredible unbelievable, astounding, mind-blowing, phenomenal, and extraordinary
Jeopardy danger, peril, or the risk of loss, harm, or injury
