ESWS DEFINE FOLLOWING TERM/ACRONYMS.

| Latitude | Distance north (N) or south(S) of the equator, expressed in degrees and minutes. |
| Longitude | Distance east (E) or west (W) of the prime meridian, which runs through Greenwich, England. |
| GMT/Coordinated Universal Standard Time | Greenwich Mean Time. Local mean time at the Greenwich Meridian. |
| Time zones | 25 Time zones all letter of the alphabet with the exception of "J". There is 15 degrees between each time zone. |
| Variation | the difference between Magnetic and True north. |
| Deviation | The difference between compass and computed magnetic heading. |
| IALA (A/B) Buoyage system | The IALA system uses buoy shape, color, and, if lighted, rhythm of flashes to convey the desired information to the mariners. |
| Cardinal system | System which breaks down the buoys into different shapes, color and meaning North, East, South, West |
| What are the two types of buyoage system | Two types buoyage systems. "A" covers Europe, Africa and most of Asia "B" covers the Americas, Philippines, South Korea, Japan |
