Navigation

ESWS DEFINE FOLLOWING TERM/ACRONYMS.

QuestionAnswer
Latitude Distance north (N) or south(S) of the equator, expressed in degrees and minutes.
Longitude Distance east (E) or west (W) of the prime meridian, which runs through Greenwich, England.
GMT/Coordinated Universal Standard Time Greenwich Mean Time. Local mean time at the Greenwich Meridian.
Time zones 25 Time zones all letter of the alphabet with the exception of "J". There is 15 degrees between each time zone.
Variation the difference between Magnetic and True north.
Deviation The difference between compass and computed magnetic heading.
IALA (A/B) Buoyage system The IALA system uses buoy shape, color, and, if lighted, rhythm of flashes to convey the desired information to the mariners.
Cardinal system System which breaks down the buoys into different shapes, color and meaning North, East, South, West
What are the two types of buyoage system Two types buoyage systems. "A" covers Europe, Africa and most of Asia "B" covers the Americas, Philippines, South Korea, Japan
