Figurative Language the use of words or phrases that deviate from their literal meaning in order to create vivid imagery, evoke strong emotions, or add emphasis.
Idiom a common phrase or expression with a figurative meaning that cannot be understood just by looking at the literal definitions of the individual words.
Metaphor a figure of speech that directly compares two unrelated things by stating that one thing is another.
Simile a figure of speech that directly compares two different things to highlight a shared quality using like or as.
Alliteration the repetition of the same sound—typically an initial consonant sound—in closely connected or neighboring words.
Hyperbole a figure of speech that uses extreme, deliberate exaggeration to make a point, add humor, or convey intense emotion.
Personification a figure of speech in which non-human things—such as objects, animals, or abstract ideas—are given human traits, emotions, or behaviors.
Onomatopia the process of creating or using words that phonetically imitate, resemble, or suggest the sound they describe.
Oxymoron a figure of speech that intentionally pairs two contradictory or opposing words together.
Receive to get, take, or accept something that is given, sent, or offered.
Ordinary something that is normal, regular, or standard.
Committee a small group of people chosen from a larger organization to perform a specific function.
Campaign a planned, coordinated series of actions intended to achieve a specific goal.
Incredible impossible or very difficult to believe.
Jeopardy exposure to or imminence of death, loss, or injury.

Polygon A closed plane figure by many straight lines.
Polygamy A marrige in which a spouce of other sex may have many mates at the same time.
Polygraph An instrument for reccording many different pulsations- a lie detector.
Perimeter The outside boundary or measure of a closed plane figure.
Thermometer a device used to measure temperature or a temperature gradient.

Centimeter a metric unit of length defined as exactly one-hundredth of a meter.
Fraction a mathematical number that represents a part of a whole or the division of two quantities.

fragment a small piece or detached part that has broken off or separated from a larger whole.
variable any factor, characteristic, or quantity that can be measured, changed, or varied.
variation the act or proccess of change.

Ratio/ ratio reason/ a comparason of two quantites.
