anime interactive, character-driven titles featuring a distinct Japanese animation art style
console a specialized computer device designed primarily for interactive gaming, outputting video and audio signals to a display like a television or monitor
cut scene a non-interactive sequence that interrupts gameplay to advance the story, provide context, or display dramatic events
ESA the primary U.S. trade association representing the video game industry
ESRB rating provides concise, impartial information about the age-appropriateness and content of video games in North America
First person shooter a video game genre focused on weapon-based combat, where the player experiences the action directly through the eyes of the character
FPS(frames per second) how many, individual, consecutive images your computer or console produces and displays on the screen every second
game screens the visual interfaces displayed to players, encompassing everything from initial loading, menus, and the Heads-Up Display (HUD) to in-game cinematics
genre a classification system that groups video games based on their core gameplay mechanics, player objectives, and interaction patterns rather than their visual style, setting, or narrative theme.
gone gold signifies that the main development is finished, and the final version is ready for mass production, duplication, and shipping to retailers.
grind the repetitive, often monotonous, action of performing the same tasks—such as killing enemies, gathering resources, or completing quests—to gain experience points (XP), currency, or rare items
janky a state of being unpolished, broken, or awkward
level a distinct, contained space or stage within a game that a player must navigate to complete specific objectives, such as reaching a goal, defeating enemies, or solving puzzles
loot virtual items, currency, or resources players acquire by defeating enemies, completing quests, or opening chests, designed to enhance character abilities and progression.
MMO a video game that allows thousands of players to interact simultaneously within a shared, persistent virtual world over the internet.
pixels the smallest controllable, individual units of color—or "picture elements"—arranged in a grid to form images on a screen
Platform the specific hardware or software environment—such as a console, PC, or mobile device—that enables a video game to operate, run, and be played.
quest a designated task or series of tasks a player-controlled character must complete to achieve a specific goal
realm a distinct, separate world, server, or dimension within a game, often characterized by its own player community, rules, and unique environment.
RPG a video game genre where you take on the role of a specific character and guide them through a story.
sprites a two-dimensional bitmap graphic—such as a character, item, or enemy—that is integrated into a larger 2D or 3D scene
top-down a genre using a camera angle positioned directly above the action, looking down on the player character and environment
