P-Diabetic

| Indications | Patients with decreased LOC whose history suggests hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia |
| Contraindications | Glucagon – Hypersensitivity, Pheochromocytoma, Insulinoma, Intranasal Glucagon is contraindicated in patients under 4 years of age. |
| Cautions | Monitor closely for airway complications |
| What does attendant do before obtaining BGL? | Complete primary survey, attempt complete history and delegate vitals starting with BGL and GCS. |
| What does attendant do after obtaining BGL? | If BGL is less than 4mmol/L administer either 15g of oral glucose if the patient is able to maintain their airway and obey commands if unable roll 3/4 prone and administer 1 mg of Glucagon IM. Transport after administering first dose. |
| What should attendant do during your continued assessment and treatment? | If no improvements within 5 minutes, repeat BGL test and if ≤4.0mmol/L, give Oral Glucose q5. No Max dosage for Oral Glucose. |
| What should you do if there are no improvements after treatment? | Consider other causes/treatment if no improvement. Consider other causes of unconsciousness (AEIOUTRIPS) and contact EPOS for further orders. |
| What does partner/driver do? | Obtain baseline set of vitals starting with BGL and GCS. Administer O2, prepare the cot. |
