What does an H-R diagram show? be able to know how to use one also. The relationship of a star's brightness to its temperature
Where do most stars in the universe fit on the H-R diagram? The main sequence
What is the difference between apparent and absolute magnitude? Apparent is how bright stars appear, and absolute magnitude is their true brightness.
How does the color of a star indicate its temperature? Blue is the hottest, then blue white, then white, then yellow, then orange then red is the coolest.
What is parallax? Apparent shift in star position.
What is a real life example of parallax involving your thumb. If you look at your thumb with your two different eyes, then if will appear to shift.
What is the difference between a circle and an ellipse? An ellipse has two foci
What is the formula for the eccentricity of an ellipse? Distance between foci / length of major axis
What is the major axis of an ellipse? It is the distance across the whole ellipse that crosses through both foci.
What are foci of an ellipse? The two focus points
How do scientists classify stars? They use the color, composition, temperature, size, and brightness
What is the difference between apparent and actual motion? Apparent motion is how far something appears to move, and actual is how something really moves.
