Algebra 1 Vocabulary
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Variable | A letter or symbol to represent an unknown quantity |
| Constant | Any number that does not have a variable or does not change |
| Coefficient | The number in front of a variable |
| Expression | A math phrase with numbers, variables, and operations but no equal sign |
| Equation | A math statement that shows two expressions are equal |
| Inequality | math statement that compares two expressions using <, > |
| Like Terms | Terms that have the same variable or same variable to the same degree/exponent |
| Function | A rule where each input has exactly one output |
| Slope | A function's rate of change, how steep the graph is, (rise over run) |
| Y-Intercept | Where a function crosses the y-axis (when x=0) |
| Standard Equation of a Line | y=mx+b |
| Point-Slope Form | y-y1=m(x-x1) |
| Domain | The set of all x values that a function takes on; written as an ordered pair |
| Range | The set of all y values that a function takes on; written as an ordered pair |
| Input | a value that you plug in for "x" in a specific function |
| Output | The result of plugging in a number for "x" |
