Cut scene a non-interactive sequence in a video game that temporarily interrupts gameplay to advance the story, develop characters, or show environmental changes
ESA a pet that provides therapeutic benefits
ESRB rating provides concise, standardized information about video game content to help parents and consumers determine age-appropriateness, typically for ages 3 and up
First Person Shooter a video game subgenre centered on combat, typically featuring firearms, where the player experiences the action through the eyes of their avatar
FPS (Frames Per Second) measures how many consecutive images—or "frames"—a camera captures, a computer renders, or a display shows in a single second
Game screens the distinct, organized visual layouts in a video game that display the environment, user interface (UI), and game state
Genre a specific category, type, or class of artistic, musical, or literary composition characterized by similarities in form, style, or subject matter.
Gone Gold a video game's primary development is finished and the master version is ready to be manufactured, reproduced, and shipped to retailers.
Grind to reduce, sharpen, or polish materials by crushing or friction, often producing powder or a smooth edge
Janky something of very poor quality, unreliable, broken, or run-down
Level a position, rank, or intensity on a scale, or a flat, horizontal surface/plane parallel to the horizon
Loot goods, money, or valuables stolen or taken by force, typically during war, riots, or chaotic situations
MMO an online video game that supports a very large number of players—typically hundreds or thousands—interacting simultaneously within a shared, persistent virtual world
Pixels the smallest, fundamental unit of a digital image or display, appearing as a tiny, controllable dot or square of color
Platform a raised, flat structure, a declared set of principles (such as in politics), or, most commonly in technology, a foundational system (hardware or software) that supports the operation of applications, services, or other products
Quest a long, difficult, and adventurous journey or effort undertaken to find, achieve, or obtain something significant
Realm a community or territory ruled by a sovereign, such as a kingdom
RPG a genre of games where players assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting, making decisions and shaping a narrative through character progression, storytelling, and combat
Sprites a supernatural, mythical being (such as a fairy, elf, or water spirit) in folklore, or a 2D bitmap image in computer graphics that moves independently on a screen, such as in video games
Top-down a system where decisions, goals, and strategies are determined by top-level management or authorities and then passed down to lower-level employees
