QuestionAnswer
intersectionality a theory and practice that analyses social inequalities by recognizing how multiple systems of power intersect to produce distinct forms of oppression and domination.
patriarchy a social system where men dominate because power and authority is mostly in the hands of adult men. They hold positions of power in political, economic, spiritual, and domestic spheres.
capitalism an economic system where the means for producing and distributing goods are owned by a small minority of people (capitalist class) while the vast majority (working class) sell their ability to work in return for a wage/salary.
colonialism the policy or practice where one group exercises power over another group through incursion into their lands or territories. Always involves settlement of members of a powerful group and displacement of peoples indigenous to the land.
white supremacy a political, economic and cultural system where whites overwhelmingly control power and resources, (un)conscious white superiority and entitlement are widespread, and relations of white dominance and non-white subordination are daily
