TermDefinition
Longitudal wave A wave in which the matter in the medium moves back and forthin the same direction the wave travels.
Medium The matter through which a wave travels
Mechanical wave Waves that only travel through matter
Transverse waves A wave in which matter in the medium moves back and forth in the same direction the wave travels
Wave A repeating disturbance or movement that transfers energy through matter or space
Amplitude A measure of the energy that a wave carries
Crest The high point of a Transverse wave
Compression The more dense region of a longitudal wave
Frequency The number of wavelengths that pass a fixed point in 1 second
Period The amount of time it takes one wavelenght to pass a fixed point
Rarefaction The amount of time it takes on wavelength to pass a fixed point
Trough The section in a compressional wave where the material less crowded and
Wavelength The distance between one point on a wave and the nearest point just like it
