Photographic and Digital Media Terms
| Term | Definition |

| SHUTTER SPEED | The time the lens open and is exposed to light. Measured in Seconds. |
| APERTURE | The opening in a camera lens that controls how much light reaches the sensor. |
| DEPTH OF FIELD | How far the camera can see before the image blurs. |
| FOCAL POINT | Usually the main subject of a photograph. It is the spot of the photo that is well lit and in focus. |
| RULE OF THIRDS | Imaginary lines that photographers use to create balance/ harmony in a photograph. |
| PORTRAIT | A photograph of a person with the focal point being the eyes of the sitter/ main subject. |
| F STOP | The number that indicates the aperture of the lens. Wide aperture = low number. Narrow aperture = high number. |
| ISO | How sensitive the lens is to light. Higher number for low light environments. Lower number for well-lit environments. |
| GAZE | The direction the main subject/ sitter is looking in a portrait photograph. e.g. Looking past the audience or looking directly at the audience. |
