What type of fracture are children most prone to? Incomplete or greenstick fractures.
What is the most reliable sign of a fracture? Deformity
What is a dislocation? When a body part moves beyond it's normal range of motion and is kept in place my muscle spasms.
What should you do for a patient before splinting a stable fracture? If possible, start the pain management protocol before splinting as splinting a MSK injury can be quite painful.
What are the signs of a pelvic fracture? Pain in the pelvis, hip, groin or lower back. Signs of hypovolemic shock. Suspicious MOI. Incontinence.
What are the different types of fractures? Closed, open(or compound), transverse, spiral, commuted, impacted, greenstick and oblique.
What material connects the ribs together? Costal cartilage
What is numbness and tingling a sign of in regards to injuries? What is the medical term for numbness and tingling? A compressed nerve, common with spinal cord injuries. Paresthesia
What is unique about the 11th and 12th ribs? They are floating and not attached to the sternum.
When shouldn't you use a pelvic binder? For hip fractures. (Neck of femur fracture.)
What is flail chest? What is a clear sign of flail chest? Double fracture of adjacent ribs. Paradoxical movement to the diaphragm.
