Unit 4 1-5 ecology words

ecologist scientist who study ecology
exotic species An organism introduced intentionally or accidentally by human activity to a geographical location evolve.
Introduce species species that exist outside of the species normal range because of human activity
non-native species Those that are not native to a particular area or are found living outside of their historical range
quadrant a square or rectangular plot of land marked off, to determine where to collect their samples
transect the specific path or area, often marked with a rope or measuring tape showing where data should be collected
abiotic the non-living components in an ecosystem include water, temperature, and sunlight
biotic the living components in an ecosystem are the organisms
biodiversity the variety of life at every level, from genes to species to ecosystems
habitat a location in an environment where an organism lives
invasive (species) introduced species that cause or have the ability to cause harm to the environment or people.
population a group of organisms of the same species living the same habitat
range in ecology, the total of all the areas where a species lives
resource a source of supply or support
