Federalism

TermDefinition
Congruent powers Powers that are shared among states and the government
Enumerated powers Powers that are only for the national level
Reserved powers Powers that are reserved to the states
Coin money A Enumerated power. Allows congress to regulate the money
Protect public health A Congruent power. To allow everyone to have free public health care.
Establish Schools A Reserved power. Allowing the states to provide a free education to all.
Declare war A Enumerated power. Allowing the federal government declare war on others countries
Punish lawbreakers A congruent power. Allowing both states and government to punish people who broke the law at the state level and the national level.
Regulate marriage, divorce, and adoption A reserved power. Allowing the states to handle low level things like divorce or marriage because the national level doesn't need to take care of that.
Maintain military forces A Enumersted power. Allowing the national government to control the military.
