Eco Succession
Ecological Succession
| Term | Definition |

| Secondary Succession | Succession that occurs after a fire, tornado or flooding. The soil is already present |
| Climax community | The final stable community |
| Pioneer Species | Hardy first organisms such as lichens or fungi that break down rock to create soil |
| Volcanos or glaciers moving | Cause primary succession to occur |
| Primary Succession | the ecological process of establishing a new biological community on barren, inorganic surfaces that lack soil. |
| Biodiversity | the immense variety and variability of all living organisms on Earth |
| Abiotic limiting factor | non-living physical and chemical component of an ecosystem that restricts growth or abundance of organisms. Weather, temperature, water and sunlight. |
| Population density | A measurement of how many individuals are in a specific area |
| Carrying Capacity | The maximum population size an environment can support |
| Biotic Limiting Factor | Living components of an ecosystem that restrict a populations size, growth or distribution. Example: predator/prey and disease. |
