TermDefinition
Organ System A group of organs that work together and perform a specific task
Homestatis An organisms ability to maintain steady internal conditions when outside conditions change
Nutrient A part of food used by the body to grow and survive
Calorie The amount of energy it takes to raise the temprature of 1kg of water by 1 C
Lymphocyte A type of white blood cell that is made in the thymus, the spleen, and the bone marrow
Immunity The resistance to specific pathogens, or disease - causing agents
Compact Bone The hard, outer layer of a bone
Spongy Bone The interior region of the bone that contins many holes
Neuron The basic functioning unit of the nervous system; a nerve cell
Reflex An automatic response to a stimulus
Hormone A chemical signal that is produced by an endocrine gland in one part of an organism and carried in the bloodstream to another part of the organism
