| Dominant allele | An allele that is expressed when present. |

| Genotype | The genetics makeup of an organism. |
| Heterozygote | An organism with two different alleles. |
| Homozygote | An organism with two alleles of the same type. |
| Hybrid | Offspring produced from parents with different traits. |
| Law of independent assortment | Genes for different traits are inherited independently of each other. |
| Law of segregation | Two alleles for a trait separate during gamete formation. |
| Locus | The location of a gene on a chromosome. |
| Phenotype | The observable traits of an organism. |
| Pollen | Tiny grains that are the male gametes of plants. |
| Pollination | Is the fertilization step in the sexual reproduction of plants. |
| Recessive allele | The allele that isn’t expressed. |
| Codominance | Both alleles are fully expressed in the phenotype of a heterozygote. |
| Incomplete dominance | When the dominant allele is not completely dominant. |
| Polygenic characteristic | A trait controlled by two or more genes |
| Probability | The chance that something will happen. |
| Punnett square | A chart that allows you to easily determine the genotypes in the offspring of two parents. |
