acid base quiz

TermDefinition
Acid A distinct type of molecule, compound always includes hydrogen
Binary Acid Acids with 2 elements (hydrogen + halogen or group 16)
Ternary Acid Contains hydrogen, oxygen + third element (nonmetal)
If ion ends in ate, acid ends in ic
if ion ends in ite, acid ends in ous
Property of Acid: Aqueuous solutions have a------ taste sour
Property of Acids: Acids change ------ of Acid base indicators the color
Property of acids: Acids ----- with bases to produce ---- and ----- React, Salt and Water
Property of Acids: Some ------ electrical current conduct
Base substance that dissolves in water to produce hydroxide ions (OH) or known as proton acceptor
What do bases mostly have? Metal cations + Hydroxide can be alkaline
Property of base: Aqueous solutions taste------ bitter
property of bases: Bases change------- of Acid base indicators the color
property of bases: Dilute aqueous solutions feel ------- sliperry
Base property: Bases ------ with water to produce -------- react, salt and water
Base property: bases ------ electrical current conduct
Arrhenius Acid chemical compound that increases concentration of hydrogen ions (H30)
Arrhenius Base substance that increases concentration of hydroxide ions (OH)
Brownstead-Lowry Acid molecule or ion that is a proton DONOR
Brownstead-Lowry base molecule or ion that is a proton ACCEPTOR
Monoprotic acid can only donate one proton (hydrogen) per molecule
polyprotic acid an acid that can donate more than one proton per molecule
Amphoteric can be either an acid or base (Ex; water)
Conjugate base A conjugate base is the species that remains after a Bronsted-Lowry acid has given up its proton.
Conjugate Acids A conjugate acid is the species that is formed when a Bronsted-Lowry base gains a proton.
Acid strength increases by increasing polarity and decreasing bond energy.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
