P - Pain Management

QuestionAnswer
What does the attendant do when activating the pain management protocol? Primary survey, complete history, pain assessment and delegate vitals. Administer Ibuprofen, acetaminophen and then entonox. If not Entonox is not effective, consider using Penthrox.
Should you let the patient apply the bite stick or do that yourself? Let the patient do it and if it falls away from them as they become sedated, do not reapply it.
What is the indication for the pain management protocol? Pain
What does the partner do when activating the pain management protocol? Obtain baseline set of vitals, prepare cot, continue assessment and treatment
What should you do if cyanosis develops or shortness of breath? Discontinue Entonox and administer high-flow O2
Should you delay transport for RTC patients to administer Entonox? No, consider administering while in transport.
