| Winged clamp | a specialized dental tool used in rubber dam isolation that features small, extra projections—or "wings"—attached to the jaws of the clamp. |
| Universal (Universal/National Tooth Designation System) | an ADA-accepted, US-standardized numbering system (1–32 for adults, A–T for children) used to identify specific teeth, starting at the upper-right third molar and ending at the lower-right third molar. |
| Bow (or facebow) | a U-shaped dental instrument used in prosthodontics to record the spatial relationship of a patient's upper jaw (maxilla) to their Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) and transfer this 3D orientation to a dental articulator. |
| Jaws | the bony or cartilaginous structures—the upper maxilla (fixed) and lower mandible (movable)—that form the framework of the mouth, hold the teeth in place, and allow for biting and chewing. |
| Septum (plural: septa) | a thin wall of bone or tissue that divides or separates dental structures, primarily the tooth sockets. |
| Invert (or inversion) | the malposition of an impacted tooth, the technique of tucking a rubber dam under the gums, or a type of dental bur. |
| Stylus | a high-speed dental handpiece (drill) or a pointed diagnostic instrument used for measurement. |
| Malaligned (Malaligned teeth, or malocclusion) | teeth that are crooked, crowded, or do not fit together properly when the jaws are closed. |
| Exposed (tooth root (gingival recession) | occurs when gum tissue recedes or deteriorates, leaving the protective gum covering gone and the root surface exposed to oral bacteria. |
| Aspirate (aspiration) | the suction technique used to remove saliva, blood, and debris. |
