gas giant a large planet made mostly of gases like hydrogen and helium
ice giant a planet composed mainly of elements heavier than hydrogen and helium, like water and ammonia
rotation the spinning of a planet on its axis
revolution the movement of a planet around the Sun
axis an imaginary line through a planet from pole to pole
day the time it takes for a planet to complete one rotation
year the time it takes for a planet to orbit the Sun
moon a natural satellite that orbits a planet
Kuiper Belt a region beyond Neptune filled with icy objects
Asteroid Bell A region between Mars and Jupiter with many asteroids
habitable zone the region around a star where conditions may support life
magnetic field an invisible field around a planet that protects it from solar radiation
ring system rings of dust and particles around a planet
eclipse when one space object blocks another
solar eclipse when the Moon blocks the Sun
Lunar Eclipse when Earth blocks sunlight from reaching the Moon
escape velocity the speed needed to break free from a planet's gravity
orbit period time it takes to complete one orbit
albedo how much light a planet reflects
radiation energy traveling through space in waves or particles
