| Presidential succession | If both President and Vice President die/leave office the Congress has the power to set presidential succession |
| State of the Union Adress | Televised speech given once a year- programs and policies |
| Foreign policy | The government's plan interacting with other countries |
| Diplomacy | Interacting with foreign governments.President visits foreign countries to help build international friendships |
| Treaties | Written agreements with other countries. Officials work to reach these agreements (includes Senators) |
| Reprieve | Postpones carrying out a person's sentance |
| Pardon | Forgives a person for his or her crime, (gets rid of punishment) |
| Secretary | The title of most cabinet members |
| Attorney general | The head of Department of Justice |
| Ambassadors | Highest ranking U.S. Representatives in foreign countries. Ambassadors that live in a foreign country is an embassy |
| Consulate | A U.S. counsel's office. It is a place where U.S. commercial interests are addressed in foreign countries. |
| Passports | Documents needed to travel to other countries, by the country of the person's citizenship |
| Visas | Documents which allow people to come to the USA |
| Joint Chiefs of Staff | Top military officers of each branch of the armed forces. They advise the president about military actions and military posibilities. |
| Department of Homeland Security | Its goal is to protect the nation from all threats and attacks |
| Independent agencies | Specialized groups created and funded by Congress. |
| Bureaucracy | All of the employees of U.S. agencies. Almost 3 million people work in the federal bureaucracy |
