|---|---|
| complementary event | two events in which either one or the other must happen, but they cannot happen at the same time. The sum of the probability of an event and its complement is 1 or 100% |
| compound event | an event consisting of two or more simple events |
| event | the desired outcome or set of outcomes in a probability experiment. |
| experimental probability | an estimate probability based on the relative frequency of positive outcome occuring during an experiment. It is based on what actually occurred during an experiment . It is based on what actually occurred during such an experiment |
| likelihood | the chances of an event occuring |
| outcome | any one of the possible results of an action. for example 4 is an outcome when a number cube is rolled. |
| probability | the chances that some event will happen. it is the ratio of the number of flavor able outcomes to the number of possible outcomes. |
| probability experiment | when you perform an event to find the likelihood of an event. |
| relative frequency | a ratio that compares the frequency of each category to a total |
| relative frequency bar graph | a graph used to organize occurrence compared to a total |
| relative frequency table | a table used to organize occurrence compared to a total |
| sample space | The set of all possible outcomes of a probability experiment |
| simple event | one outcome or a collection of outcomes. |
| simulation | an experiment that is designed to model the action in a given situation. |
| theoretical probability of a com[pound event | the ratio of the number of ways an event can occur ro the number of possible outcomes in the sample space. It is based on what should happen when conducting a probability experiment. |
| tree diagram | a diagram used to show the sample space |
| uniform probability model | a probability model which assigns equal probability to all outcomes. |
