4.3 b cell functions
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Nuclear Membrane | acts as a selective barrier, between the nucleus and the cytoplasm, controls ribosomes flow out of the nucleus as traffic through pores, and chromatin |
| Nucleolus | part of the cell that creates the ribosome which are essential for protein synthesis. |
| DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) | the instruction manual for all living organisms, storing genetic information, directing protein synthesis, and replicating itself for cell division. |
| Rough Endoplasmic reticulum | has the ribosomes start to put together amino acids to form proteins |
| Smooth Endoplasmic reticulum | creates lipids and break down toxins |
| Vacuole | sac like organelle that stores water, food or other material needed to maintain life of the cell |
| vesicle | packaged parts that have ribosome, or proteins packaged and move them around in the cell |
| lysosome | contain enzymes that break down waste materials, foreign invaders (bacteria), and old cell parts |
| Large central vacuole | storage unit in a plant cell that will store food, waste, and water or other substances to maintain homeostasis in the plant cell |
| selectively permeable | some substances can move across the cell membrane while other substances can't |
