Anaerobic Respiratio
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Anaerobic Respiration | less than aerobic (< 36 ATP) much better than fermentation (>>>2 ATP) Instead of O2: use sulfates, nitrates, fumerates in an ETC in their cell membrane |
| Fermentation | Generates ATP without any ETC Extends glycolysis AKA "Fermentation" 2 Types (out of 100s): Alcohol (ethanol) Lactic acid |
| Alcohol Fermentation | Pyruvate converts into ethanol and CO2: yeast, plants, some bacteria |
| Lactic Acid Fermentation | Pyruvate is reduced by NADH to form Lactate , after muscle cells run out of oxygen and go through lactic acid fermentation to produce ATP |
| Fermentation Outputs and input | 2 Pyruvate or 3C/ 2 NADH and Outputs are 2NAD+ and 2CO2 for alcohol |
