| What is point of view? | who is telling a story |
| What is theme? | a life lesson |
| What is a stanza? | a group of lines in a poem (looks like a paragraph) |
| What is a biography? | a story about a person's life |
| What is a journal? | similar to a diary with daily entries about events in a person's life |
| What is first person point of view? | the person telling the story is in the story |
| What is third person point of view? | the person telling the story is NOT in the story |
| What is evidence? | proof (usually a sentence or two) |
| What is a drama? | a play with stage directions |
| What are stage directions? | tell what the people in the play are to do (usually in parentheses) |
| What is fiction? | text that is made up (fake) |
| What is nonfiction? | text that is not made up (not fake) |
| What is text structure? | how a text is developed (structured) |
| What is problem and solution? | a text structure where there is a problem and a solution is developed |
| What is compare and contrast? | a text structure where the text tells how things are alike and different |
| What is cause and effect? | a text structure where something (causes ) makes something happen (effect) |
| What is description? | a text structure where something/someone is described (can be physical or personality traits) |
| What is sequential order? | a text structure where things are listed in time order |
| What is chronological order? | another way of saying sequential (time) order |
| What is a literary device? | a way of "spicing up" writing to be more descriptive or catchy (Super 7) |
| What is a simile? | a comparison using like, as, or than |
| What is a metaphor? | a comparison NOT using like, as, or than |
| What is hyperbole? | an exaggeration |
| What is an idiom? | a saying that is figurative, not literal (does not mean what it says) |
| What is alliteration? | repeated us of the same sound at the beginning of words |
| What is onomatopoeia? | sound words |
| What is personification? | giving human-like qualities to something that is not human |
| What is the setting? | Where and when a story takes place. |
| What is plot? | What happens in the story. It includes the beginning, middle, and ending and a problem and solution. |
| What is the resolution of a story? | How the problem is solved and how the story ends. |
