| State of the union Address | Televised speech given once a year sets for the programs and policies that the president wants Congress to put in effect laws |
| Foreign policy | Governments plan for interacting with other countries of the world |
| diplomacy | The art of interacting with foreign governemnts |
| treaties | Written agreements with other countries |
| reprieve | the carrying out of a person's sentence |
| pardon | to forgive a person for their crimes and then to eliminate (get rid of) their punishment |
| Secretary | The title of most cabinet members is secretary |
| Attorney general | The head of the Department of justice is known as the attorney general |
| ambassadors | Highest ranking U.S. representatives in Oregon countries. the official place where ambassadors live in a foreign country is the embassy |
| Consulate | A U.S counsel's office is a consulate.It is a place where U.S commercial interests are addressed in foreign countries |
| Passports | Documents needed to travel to other countries issued by the country of the person's citizenship. |
| visas | Documents which allow people from other countries to come to the USA. |
| Joint Chiefs of Staff | Top military officers of each branch of the armed forces who advise the president about military actions,and military possibilities |
| Department of Homeland security | Established after the Sept.11th attacks.Its goal is to protect the nation from all threats and attacks,this includes natural disasters |
| Independent agencies | Specialized groups created and funded by Congress who work for a common goal/topic in the Executive Branch. Example:NASA is an agency |
| Bureaucracy | All of the employees of the U.S. agencies,as well as those of the executive departments,make up the bureaucracy.There are almost 3 million people who work in the federal bureaucracy. |
