| Osteoblast | produce immature bony tissue that replaces cartilage |
| Osteocyte | nourishes and maintains bones |
| Osteoclast | reabsorb or digest bone |
| Compact Bone | hard, dense bone tissue usually found around the outer portion of a bone contains haversian systems for blood vessels, nerves, and yellow bone marrow |
| Cancellous (spongy bone) | spaces contain red bone marrow with elements for blood formation |
| Acetabulum | hip socket |
| Acromion | outward extension of the shoulder bone |
| Mastoid process | located on the temporal bone |
| Sella turcica | located on the sphenoid bone |
| Foramen magnum | located on the occipital bone |
| Coccyx | tailbone |
| Phalanx | single toe bone |
| Sternum | breast bone |
| Condyle | knuckle-like process at the end a bone near a joint |
| Collagen | dense connective tissue protein strands found in bone |
| Cartilage | flexible connective tissue found in the immature skeleton, epiphyseal plate, and on joint surfaces |
