| Tripods | Stands with three legs to stabilize the camera |
| Exposure | measurement of the amount of light hitting the camera's sensor |
| Depth of Field | measurement between the nearest and farthest object in focus |
| ISO | measurement of the sensitivity to light for the sensor |
| Shutter | device which opens and closes to allow light for the sensor |
| Shutter Speed | Measurement of how quickly the shutter opens to let light into the sensor |
| Aperture | measurement of how open or closed the iris of the camera is |
| F-stop | measurement of the opening of the iris to the diameter of the lens` |
| artistic photography | images created with aesthetic appeal |
| commercial photography | used to sell a product |
| photojournalism | documenting real events or situations through images |
| scientific photography | used soley to accurately document a subject for scientific purposes |
| freelance | photographer who works independently to provide services to a variety of clients |
| camera sensor | detects light to convey an image |
| DSLR | Digital Single Lens Reflex Camera - has mirrors in the camera body |
| megapixel | measurement of the resolution the camera is able to capture |
| ISO Settings | determines how sensitive the camera's sensor is to light |
| Full Automatic mode | allows the camera to select all of the settings |
| shutter priority mode | photographer selects shutter speed. camera selects iso and aperture |
| aperture priority mode | photographer selects the aperture, camera selects the iso and shutter speed |
| program mode | photographer selects iso, camera sets shutter speed and aperture |
| maunal | photographer selects all exposure settings |
| frame | boundaries of what will be capture in a photo |
| viewfiner | eye piece used to view what the lens sees |
| lighting meter | device used to measure the amount of light being detected in the image |
